Musical Moments

"Music fills the infinite between two souls."
Rabindranath Tagore

Some of my most cherished memories are of sharing music with people I love. When I was about three years old, Papa played Emile de Becque in a local production of South Pacific. He taught me to sing "Dites-Moi," and we would sing a duet every evening when he put me to bed. He died five years later so those memories are very precious. I look forward to singing with him again someday. (Surely there is singing in heaven.)
When my sister Alice and I sang a duet in church once no one could tell our voices apart we blended so well. Perhaps it was all those hours singing together in the car. When I sang "Goin' Home" at Dad's funeral, Don accompanied me on the piano, which was comforting beyond words. And before Reed left on his mission we had a blast singing together. But a couple of weeks ago it was Micaela and I who sang a duet. Of course, it was much better in rehearsal--it always is because of the nerves--but no matter how it would've turned out, it meant the world to me to have that experience with her! Watching my children grow in their love of music has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
Micaela and I sang "Guard Him, Joseph," which we downloaded from http://www.defordmusic.com/. Sally DeFord has provided has amazing service by offering her music free on the Internet.
