Boxing Day

Boxing Day has become our family's big Christmas celebration because we get all the kids and their families every year instead of taking turns with the in-laws.

This year we had Cuban Beef Tacos, lime rice, homemade refried beans and a green salad. It was dairy-free and egg-free because Olivia has a dairy intolerance and is allergic to eggs. I sure hope she grows out of that.
Every year we have guarana, a family favorite and a nod to our Brazilian heritage,

and pull our Christmas crackers (our British heritage). The crackers always contain a crown and a prize.

Robbie and Luke loved wearing their crowns. These two don't get to see each other very often, but they get along famously when they do. They are both kind, gentle boys.
Luke is a character. I love his very expressive face and his impish smile. He had a big plate of rice for dinner. Just rice. :-)

Olivia was perfectly at home with Britney. She sure has a way with children.

We had a program and everyone was invited to participate with a song, a thought, a story, a poem, a joke, a youtube video, etc.  Reed & Britney sang, "Love Is An Open Door," from Disney's Frozen. They did an amazing job and I loved every minute.

Robbie put on a terrific magic show. His cousins were entranced and didn't want it to end.
Bridger shared a story he made up on the spot. :-) That kid has quite the imagination.

Gary also told a story, a very touching story. Later, I persuaded him to play the piano and sing for us.
I didn't get pictures of everyone. Micaela played the piano, Ben played the violin, I led everyone in a round (Dona Nobis) and Duff shared a thought.

There were a couple of things that didn't work out quite as I'd planned. We tried having the grandkids play the chimes while we sang a Christmas song and realized that we might need to wait a few years for that to work out well, and the left/right game was another misfire. Luke didn't want to let his present go around the circle (and which way is left and which way is right, anyway) so that game was very short-lived. Each of the grandkids got a different animal with six foam balls and they loved shooting me with them. That part was a success.

Twins! Britney and Tiffany didn't plan on wearing practically the same outfit.
It was a wonderful, wonderful day! I am so blessed to have all these great people in my life!
